I'm forever on the lookout for an exciting new DS game, so when I heard about this six-legged adventurer I had to check it out. You are Detective Chrys Liszt (cute pun, eh?) in a dark, futuristic world where insects reign supreme and must shoot, point and click to get to the bottom of the case. As a pointer-and-clicker at heart, I have a soft spot for puzzle adventure games and with the combination of exploring and interrogating, Insecticide performs well on the DS. But this little game took on more than it when attempting to incorporate an action element to the game. The shooting controls are weak and clunky and platforming levels are more than difficult to navigate. The darker graphical scheme works well for the mystery adventuring portion of the game, but just get muddy when you need to deftly execute moves and kills.
It's sad to see a game that has so much potential fail to execute. A cheesy, but charming detective storyline saves the game from the Hall of Shame, but the frustrating shooter levels dooms the game to the resell bin. For DS dedicates it's worth checking out, but be prepared for more bugginess than you hoped for.
