Chick Who Doesn't Play
Laura Anderson - Consultant
Age: 24 - Chicago, IL, USA
Nationality

Laura’s been a close friend of mine for a very long time, starting back in college. I love most everything about her except she doesn’t play enough video games. _ Her free time is usually spent getting creative with her hands (currently working on her Katamari costume for our launch party) or with her nose in a book, usually while brunching with me, which is great and all, but she needs to share my love for the controller. She loves music, so we threw Guitar Hero II at her a while back to see what would happen. As evidenced by her Katamari costume, I think we hooked her.

CDG: What attracts you to music games?

Laura: There are other games? WHAT ELSE HAVE YOU BEEN HIDING FROM ME? What games? Where? No more secret games, ok?

CDG: What attracts you to music games?

Laura: I like to party. I like to get down.

CDG: Favorite game?

Laura: Chutes and Ladders…maybe 90’s edition Trivial Pursuit if and only if I get to be Kurt Cobain.Oh, did you mean like, video games? I’m having a difficult time with the ambiguity of this questionnaire. I don’t really see what the focus is…

CDG: What do you think of the perception that video gaming is a guy’s thing?

Laura: I love those dudes who post Craigslist ads seeking girl gamers. ISO my Night Elf…Be my Emerald Dream Come True!!!

CDG: Do you play to win or play for fun?

Laura: Winning is fun!

CDG: How often do you play?

Laura: Not very often since music games are much more fun played with other people, especially the inebriated second cousins of your schoolmate’s ex-mother-in-law. So when I try to play Guitar Hero by myself I get sad and cry. Who the hell turned “Iron Man” into an emo-ballad? That’s right, this girl…

CDG: Do you enjoy playing alone or with other people?

Laura: *See above question* I think this is why I’m not very good, and I hear guys only want girls with skills, rather skilllzzz.

CDG: Who do you play with?

Laura: Will you be my gamer friend? *or* Will you be my friend, gamer? I’ll take whatever I can get.

CDG: Are there other games you are looking forward to playing?

Laura: I’m pretty stoked about Rock Band …I just need to find a band. I’m holding auditions now. Let’s make one thing explicit: It’s my band, ok? I will not be fought for creative control.

CDG: What console do you play on?

Laura: PS2

CDG: Do you play portable games? (e.g. Nintendo ds or psp)

Laura: No

CDG: What games do you own?

Laura: Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, DDR Extreme, DDR Supernova

CDG: Do you play any online games?

Laura: The internets were invented so YouTube could come to fruition.

CDG: What other kind of leisure activities do you enjoy?

Laura: Currently: Flight of the Conchords, RedEye crossword puzzles, Kashi cereal, Harry Potter audiobooks, my new Teavana tea press, brunch with Sarah S.

So Cute
I wish someone would help me get into games this way!! :)

Not A Chick
I'm not a chick, but if I was a chick, I would need another chick to get me into gaming. That being said......... CHICKSDIGGAMES.COM may be the best way for chicks who don't game to get other chicks who don't game to get chicks that dig games to get them to dig games. :)

Great
Great article about an even greater young woman!!! I'm sure that your mom and dad are very proud of you even if you are not a big gamer! I bet you decorate great Christmas trees!

Hey YOU!
Look here! Next time YOU try to play "Monkey Wrench" with a preternaturally large foam head...its harder than it looks, my dear Scotty!!!

No folks, he's not joking. I got schooled. But I'd challenge anyone to test their shredding abilities to his. This kid's the real deal and will own you all.

The key lesson (and my mantra for life) is that it's not about the skills--it's all about the style.

wheeee!
